Current Projects
The location of the property on Lake Nyasa is in the northern part of Mbamba Bay, Tanzania. This area is somewhat remote, and, therefore, traveling here is somewhat of a journey. In order for resources and training to be made available, basic living accommodations need to be established. Below is an update on current projects, as well as projects essential to creating a sustainable infrastructure for ministry.

01
Running Water and Septic
Currently, the only sources of water, other than the lake, are several kilometers away. We have consulted a water engineer for the most efficient way to bring water to the area. There are several factors needed to take into consideration: cost, timing, and availability of resources - equipment and skilled human resources. We were hoping to have running water by fall 2024, but the two attempts to dig a well were unsuccessful. We will regroup and attempt this project again as resources and finances become available. In addition to having running water at our site, we are committed to making running water available in the village as well. Villagers are very excited that we are committed to this goal.
02
Construction of Bathhouse
Understanding that construction of permanent accommodations will take time, phase one of infrastructure development includes setting up areas for camping. This will require shower and toilet facilities. As such, we hired local fundis (skilled workers) to build a bathhouse. The villagers were eager to work for fair wages and over one hundred people showed up to be hired to clear the land, carry water, build and transport bricks, collect rocks, strip grass, and any other task to help construct our first building. However, plumbing and fixtures will have to wait until running water and a septic are installed.

03
Set Up Camp
Camping in tents will be the preliminary accommodations for missioners. Shade will be necessary to keep the tents cool under the African sun. Grass roof gazebos will meet this need. Simple and easy to move, these four-post, grass-roof supporting structures should be relatively easy to build. However, the grass needed for the project grows seasonally. Construction is dependent on finances and grass availability.
04
Electricity
The closest electrical hook-up is four telephone poles away. Since we are the first location in the area requesting electricity through the local electric company, we will need to cover the cost of the pole installation. However, the local electric company cannot guarantee continuous service. As such, we will need to have a back up supply. We are investigating the availability of generators and solar power. This equipment will need to be brought in from larger towns a long distance away. Again, finances and availability of human and material resources will impact the completion of this project.

Phase Two

Main Building and Bungalows
Phase two is comprised of constructing permanent accommodations adequate for the housing, feeding, and gathering of larger groups. The main building will hold a reception area, offices, industrial kitchen, dining hall, and a large gathering space on the second level. With no eating facilities in the area, our site needs to be equipped to provide food storage and preparation for guests.
Grass-roof bungalows will maintain the authentic aesthetic of the area while providing private sleeping quarters. Each bungalow will have a sleeping area and full bathroom.
